About Jessicas Ghost
Jessicas Ghost is a popular North West band performing a superb mix of pop and rock covers for parties, functions etc. The band gigs regularly on the North West live music scene to rave reviews and is in demand for festival, corporate function, party and wedding entertainment.
The Winning Hand
The Jessicas Ghost story began in 2005 when Merseyside singer-songwriter Emma Thorbinson (then Longworth) decided to embark on a new live music project. First on board was Wirral-based bassist Ian "Moxy" Moxham, soon to be followed by a multitude of talented musicians on instruments ranging from cello to accordion.
Over the years to follow, as the line-up changed and the band found its feet, it worked tirelessly on its song-writing style, superb musicianship and its renowned performance energy. The culmination of this hard work came in 2009 with the release of Jessicas Ghost's alt-folk debut album, The Winning Hand, and performances throughout the UK and in Europe.
Losing Track of Time
By 2011, following a number of personnel changes, Em and Moxy had been joined by drummer Dave Thorbinson, Christopher "R-Chris" Shaw on electric guitar, and Craig Smith on keyboards, a line-up that would remain unchanged for seven years.
With the new additions, a new rockier, more commercial sound was starting to emerge, and Jessicas Ghost were deep into another collaboration with producer Richard J L Smith, working hard on an aptly named follow-up to The Winning Hand: the rockier Losing Track of Time LP was almost three years in the making upon its release in October 2012!
Much of the delay to the release of Losing Track of Time was a result of a busy gig schedule following the success of the first album. It seems the wait for the second was worthwhile though, the record enjoying a warm reception in the music press, and the band's gig schedule becoming even busier!
With two successful original albums and a repertoire of covers now totaling in excess of three hours of music, Jessicas Ghost has gone from strength-to-strength in recent years, and saw the first new addition in years when lead guitarist Adam Smithson joined in 2018, replacing the outgoing R-Chris.
Moving on from performances at the original music venues in which Jessicas Ghost honed it's skills and, indeed, made it's name, the band now has a busy schedule of public and private party and covers gigs across the North West, with increasingly high-profile bookings including corporate entertainment for large companies like Talk Talk, and support slots with artists ranging from Paloma Faith to Pixie Lott.
It is no surprise, then, to hear that Jessicas Ghost has become one of the North West's must-see bands. As Liverpool Sound & Vision put it in a JG gig review, "some bands should never be left too long before you visit and fall in love with them".
